Fishy Business: A Tiny Artwork (13-18 cm) from 2003/2004

Let’s talk about ‘Fish.’ No, not the kind you fry up for dinner, but a tiny oil painting from my experimental phase back in 2003/2004. This little guy, measuring just 13-18 cm, was my attempt to dive into the world of oil paint, colors, and capturing the elusive shimmer of fish scales.

Now, let’s be honest. Did it work out as planned? Not quite. In fact, I’d go so far as to say this fish might be the reason I took a 15-year break from oil painting! It seems this fish had its own agenda, thwarting my artistic ambitions at the time.

But fear not, for in 2019, after bidding adieu to our bustling businesses (bed and breakfast, holiday houses, and a restaurant), I found myself with the space and time to reignite my passion for painting. Art, for me, requires a leisurely pace, no time constraints, and definitely no commissions. I create what I want, when I want—now that’s luxury!

So there you have it. ‘Fish’ is just a fish, swimming in the sea of my artistic journey. Who knows, maybe one day it’ll inspire a fishy tale from an art historian, but for now, it’s a quirky reminder of the ups and downs of artistic experimentation.
