‘Tablesitting’ (1990s)

This intimate artwork, measuring a mere 13-18 cm, marks my humble beginnings with oil painting. Created in the ’90s, it holds the title ‘Tablesitting,’ a name chosen on a whim without any profound significance attached. The subject? A naked man seated at a table—simple, straightforward, and devoid of elaborate meaning.

As I recall, I embarked on this piece with a desire to capture the human form in a domestic setting. Why a naked man? Why a table? The answers elude me now, lost in the spontaneity of creation. ‘Tablesitting’ has journeyed with me through various homes, finding its current place in the kitchen, where it quietly observes daily life.

Perhaps one day, when I’m long gone, an art historian will unravel the mysteries behind this artwork, concocting elaborate theories and interpretations. But for now, it remains a cherished relic of my artistic genesis, a reminder of the simplicity and freedom of early explorations with oil paint.”
