Welcome to “the Gallery” of X-Artwear
Pauls journey into the world of painting and Art began later in life. At the age of 23, after his hairdresser-career, he enrolled at the “Gerrit Rietveld Art academy” in Amsterdam. He studied five years “Fashion” where his Drawing/Painting teacher initially doubted his abilities. “I’ll give you some “tricks” to compensate”. “No way!” Paul thought. “I’ll find my own voice!” , even if it meant five years of war with his teacher and navigating through challenges and self-discovery.
Afterwards, life took him on a different path as a commercial costume designer for television and theatre. A decade of stars and glitter, finally a huge business with too many people working for him…the artist Paul was as good as dead. “I have everything …but I am not happy”. He finished the business, sold his house, left the Netherlands (“Otherwise they ‘ll always find me!”) with his now husband John and moved to France in 2002.
“I am gone do what I really like: Make and Create!” Less money but more… much more happier!
In the past 20 years he and his partner John renovated 3 houses, decorated the rooms and started a Bed and Breakfast. In the mean time Paul wrote a novel, started baking huge decoratif cakes, designed for “P.H.Menswear” menswear, painted and decorated porcelain, renovated other houses, opened guesthouses, decorated the Guesthouses, renovated and changed an old Garage into a restaurant, decorated it and opened the restaurant “Jeviemavie”.
And despite of all this “work” he had also time to restart his passion: drawing and painting, focused on capturing the essence of men – their emotions, their vulnerabilities, their stories !
In this gallery, you’ll find a collection of his Oil-paintings, Drawings, Multy Media and Watercolours, created from 1999 till today!
The original Artworks have now found a new canvas in the form of Men’s artwear, proudly showcased on this website. But beyond the strokes of paint lies a deeper narrative, one that invites you to explore not just the physical form, but the complexities of human experience.
